Our story
New Dawn for Homeless Children was established in 2013 by individuals who had grown up without parents and were once among the many street children in the Machumba region. One day, when one of the founders was around 13 years old, their life took a significant turn.
They crossed paths with a compassionate couple who welcomed them with open arms, providing shelter, food, and a loving family. From that point on, they lived in Machumba. With the couple’s blessing, one of the founders invited a friend from the streets to join their new home. Together, they grew up with three younger siblings, and with a piece of land gifted by their grandmother, they established the New Dawn for Homeless Children orphanage in 2013, taking in six other children who had lost their parents.
This experience inspired them to share the joy they had found and to name their new home "New Dawn for Homeless Children." It serves as a sanctuary for children in the area who have lost their parents or require support due to difficult circumstances, providing hope and a brighter future.
Initially, the founders themselves taught the first group of children subjects like math, English, and general education. Since 2015, two dedicated teachers have been taking care of the children every weekday. The orphanage operates as a preschool or kindergarten, serving mainly children aged 3-6 years. Here, they learn their first English phrases, essential numbers, and writing skills in a fun and nurturing environment. Some children reside at the orphanage, while others live in the village with surviving relatives, and some are fostered by local families. The community’s unity and support are truly exceptional.
About Me
The founder spent almost 15 months across various African countries in 2018/2019, including 9 months in Kenya, and has returned frequently ever since. Early in their journey, they met the founders of the orphanage while working on another project. They were deeply moved by the dedication and commitment displayed to the many children who have found a home at New Dawn for Homeless Children.
Turning a blind eye has long been unacceptable. They have experienced immense love here and have witnessed too much suffering. This is why they have decided to support New Dawn for Homeless Children and hope to connect with others who share their resolve to make a difference. Because they believe that:
